what is it like
at one of our Sunday morning services?
Is it going
to be weird?
Visiting a new place can be scary, especially when religion is attached to
it. Here's a play-by-play of Sunday morning service to help take some of the
weirdness out of it.

Come on In
You will
always be greeted by friendly people with the newsletter. They can help you
find any place you need. If you are a first time visitor you will be given a
welcome pack, please fill in the card and hand back to the usher or place in
the offering bag.
Sit wherever you want in the main auditorium. Nobody bites and there are no
assigned seats.

Lets Get Rolling
At 10:30 am
the meeting leader will start the service, this may be in prayer or with
worship music. If you don't know the words, we have them displayed on the
screen right up front. The songs are modern and catchy; the words are
usually taken from the Bible. At various points between the singing, we may
move around and greet one another, have a time of prayer for individual
needs and make announcements for upcoming events. Some of our people may
dance or wave flags as a part of their worship.

Pass the Bag
We collect
an offering every Sunday. Visitors don't feel obligated to give anything.
Instead, we ask you to place a visitor card in the bag when it's passed by.
Somebody usually plays music or sings a song while this happens.

Sharing Often someone will share
something that is going on in their lives and what God is doing in this
situation, we call this a Testimony.
Bread and Wine are often
used for those who are followers of Jesus. These just symbols that
help us to remember that Jesus died and shed his blood so that we
could get into the family of God. If you are a follower of Jesus you
are welcome to join us in eating these symbols.

Smaller Children leave
for Kids Church at around 11am. Sometimes they come back into the
main service at the end to share or sing.

The Message
Our
Preacher for the morning will take the stage next to talk for a little
while. His or her messages are usually down-to-earth and conversational. They won’t scream
at us and shout "Your gonna' fry!" or anything like that. They will just
talk to us about topics that affect our daily lives. While they talk and
read from the Bible, many of our speakers use PowerPoint© presentations to
help illustrate their point. The only scary thing is that Pastor Mike may
tell a joke.
After
the Message The
speaker may invite us to come to the front for prayer about the things that were
discussed. We give everyone who wants to pray time to come forward. This is
a serious time to look inside our own hearts. The band may come back and
play softly during this time. The prayer is usually for people who are sick.

Conclusion
The service is then usually concluded with a song and prayer. You are then
welcome to say and talk for a while over a cup of tea or coffee but you are
free leave whenever you are ready. We want
you to know that you are welcome, if we can help please ask. Above everything else we
want you to meet with God and go away different than when you entered, this
applies to all of us at Penkhull Christian Fellowship. |
