about us - who we are?

Penkhull Christian Fellowship is located in Penkhull village, Stoke-on-Trent, England.

Situated close to Staffordshire and Keele Universities and the North Staffordshire teaching hospital complex, we are medium size lively Pentecostal church; if you come along to one of our meetings you will find between 40 and 140 people, dependant upon the type of meeting and what other activities are going on at the same time.

what are our services like?

God has been good to us and we have a fellowship which represents all ages and many ethnic backgrounds.

We have two buildings in Penkhull, the church building in Franklin Road (picture 1 seen during a service) and a couple of hundred metres away we have a converted Methodist church building (picture 2) which we use as a centre for midweek meetings and other activities.

A brief history

Around 1914 a Charles Harthern lived opposite the Methodist Church (above) in Newcastle Lane (which we have now purchased as our 'centre') and at the age of 14 he became a Christian - later becoming a Youth Leader at the Methodist Church.

In 1939 Charles Harthern started meetings in his home in Newcastle Lane with many children and young people becoming Christians and experiencing the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
He then hired nearby Barnfield Pavilion and started the Penkhull Pentecostal church.

In 1942 a small wooden bungalow adjacent to the coal business was purchased and the church and Sunday school meetings continued there. This is the site of the present church building.

In 1997 we purchased the old Methodist church a few 100 metres and refurbished it for use for midweek meetings and as a social centre.

Our vision

“To be a light on the hill of Penkhull and beyond.

To bring glory to God by maturing and releasing
the ministry of the church.

To present the gospel in a relevant way, so that all
may have the chance to accept Jesus.”

We are a community based Church and seek to achieve our ‘Vision’ by working and sharing the truth of the gospel in the community in this way we can be a shining example of Christianity in action.

We use the Sunday Morning teaching time a vital part of maturing the Church along with Home Groups and the Layman's Bible School.

All our members are encouraged to live the Christian life as well as talk about it. We seek to encourage the community to come to events specially put on for this purpose. These events are designed to be attractive, relevant and innovative as well as challenging. We recognise that it is each individuals own responsibility to accept Christ, we never seek to force people to come to Him but rather leave that job the work of the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
